COCOON SILKWORM
COCOON SILKWORM
Material: The cocoon is composed of raw silk, primarily fibroin and sericin.
Silk Production: Each cocoon can yield around 300–900 meters of silk thread.
Lifecycle: The silkworm spins the cocoon in 2–3 days before metamorphosing into a moth.
Harvesting: To obtain silk, cocoons are typically boiled to soften the sericin, allowing the silk thread to be unwound.
Uses: Apart from textiles, silkworm cocoons are also used in skincare, crafts, and sustainable packaging.
